The High Commissioner- designate of the Republic of Cyprus to Solomon Islands, Her Excellency Mrs. Martha Mavrommati has made a courtesy call to the Acting Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare yesterday afternoon.
Tourism and Climate Change issues were part of the agenda that were discussed between the two leaders.
Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Sogavare made statements on the many potential benefits that the country can received from tourism.
Hon. Sogavare stated that tourism in the country can be boosted if necessary developments are made in potential areas such as aviation, infrastructure and shipping.
The acting Prime Minister also stated that a look towards eco- tourism is also a potential and highly supported approach given the rich natural resources the country has.
Meanwhile, Her Excellency Mavrommati stated that one of the lessons that the Solomon Islands can learn from Cyprus is the use of renewable energy in her country.
She stated that a country such as Solomon Islands can learn from the examples of Cyprus who have come a long way in the use of solar energy as their source of power.
Her Excellency Mavrommati also conveyed her congratulations to the country for its first medal in the Commonwealth Games and further reiterated that, “one thing that makes it special is that it was won by a woman”, she said.
H.E Mavrommati was in the country to present the Letters of Credence accredited to her by the President of the Republic of Cyprus His Excellency Nicos Anastasiades as High Commissioner of theRepublic of Cyprus to Solomon Islands.
