Chief condemns alleged killing

A Chief has condemned the actions of the man who stabbed his heavily pregnant estranged wife, killing her unborn child.

Chief Frank Roboolite’e said this is an “evil act”.

“This is the worst killing act and I really condemned this evil act,” Chief Roboolite’e said.

“Committing such evil deeds will not take you anywhere but only in jail.”

He said taking the life of an innocent unborn child is a really cruel act and must be stopped.

He then urged people who have problems to seek help from responsible authorities and not to take laws into their own hands.

“Never take the law into your own hands, it will lead you to nowhere but imprisonment.

“I must appeal to relatives of the parties concerned to remain calm and leave the matter to the courts,” the concerned chief said.

The stabbing incident happened at Feraladoa settlement.

William Maelafia of Malaita was remanded at the Honiara Magistrates Court, Tuesday, on one count of attempted murder.

His estranged wife, who now lives with a new partner, remains in critical condition at the National Referral Hospital.

Meanwhile, it is understood that relatives of both parties have eased the tension among family members in the payment of compensation.

The parties gathered at Naha Police Station on Tuesday where a Malaita shell money was paid to relatives of the woman to pave way for further reconciliation.

Police investigation is continuing.
