Police commended for maintaining peace

Acting Prime Minister Manasseh Maelanga has commended the Royal Solomon Islands Police for ensuring a safe and peaceful Solomon Islands throughout the 2016 Christmas-2017 New Year festive period.

The commendation came after the Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, Frank Prendergast informed the Acting Prime Minister that police operations conducted during the festive session to ensure national peace and safety went very well and people enjoyed their celebrations.

Mr Prendergast met with Mr Maelanga yesterday as part of the weekly national security briefing by the Police Commissioner for the Prime Minister.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs is Acting Prime Minister in the absence of Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare who is away in his East Choiseul Constituency for holiday and constituency visit.

The Acting Prime Minister said the Commissioner of Police together with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force deserve commendation for the successful police operations during the festive period.

He said the continued display of professionalism by the local police in the discharge of duties is a bold reassurance that it is ready to take on the leadership role over the country’s policing and national security affairs again when the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands withdraws from the country this year.

The Acting Prime Minister also commended churches and community leaders for complementing the work of the police in the community by exerting positive influence.

He also commended all Solomon Islanders and foreign nationals who spent the festive period in Solomon Islands for celebrating the Christmas and arrival of this New Year 2017 in the true spirit of peace and goodwill.

The Acting Prime Minister said such show of goodwill and maturity should be maintained all year round and urged all Solomon Islanders to make this a resolution for this year.
