PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare says sorry to the people of Solomon Islands on behalf of the state, for the pain and sufferings experienced during the ethnic tension from 1998-2000.
Sogavare made this solemn apology during the opening of the National Healing and Apology programme today.
He says the ethnic tension came about because the British system did not take into account three pillars namely governance, religion and custom.
He blames the centralized system and lack of sound land reform programmes to address customary land system, as some of the major contributing factors.
The National Apology and Healing week commences today and ends during the Independence Celebration.
