THE Kurukuru’s skipper Elliot Ragomo and Kurukuru’s pivot player George Stevenson will be heading to Brazil to play their trade there in preparation for FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia later this year.
Kurukuru’s head coach Juliano Schmeling and his assistance Jerry Sam confirmed this to Star Sports over the weekend.
“Ragomo and Stevenson will leave Honiara on Thursday June 30th,’’ Schmeling said.
“They will fly to Australia to get their visas and by first week of July they are flying to Brazil to train professionally with Minas Futsal Club,’’ he said.
Sam said so far discussion with Kurukurus major sponsor SIPA has reached an amicable understanding to send the players to Brazil.
He also stressed the initial plan to send both players to Brazil is a great move to mould the players in their preparations.
“Ragomo and George’s move is a welcoming news for our players as we continue to step up our preparation for the World Cup,’’ he said.
Sam said the idea to send our two players to Brazil was made possible through both Juliano and his friend in Brazil who was willing to help Kurukuru in its preparation for World Cup in Colombia.
He added, Ragomo and Stevenson will join the rest of the team either at Brazil or Coasta Rica for their proposed friendly match against Brazil national futsal team.
Meanwhile Kurukuru squad will be heading back to Sydney on the 5th of August to play another two friendly matches against Australia on the 9th and 13th of August.
From Australia they will be heading to Asia or Brazil, however he cannot confirm it as they are still waiting for confirmation.
From either Asia or Brazil the team will travel directly to South America to the host country of the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup, Colombia.
Sam also stressed that the players showed strong commitment and positive attitude in training, which shows a good sign in their preparations.
