THE government through the Culture Division of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will be organizing a mini arts and cultural festival this Friday at the National Museum grounds in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
The purpose of the mini arts and cultural festival is to showcase the country’s arts and cultural performances to be highlighted at the 12th Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture (FestPac) in Guam later this month and also to give the public a glimpse of what the Solomons contingent will highlight in Guam from May 22 to June 4.
Solomon Islands is sending a total of 170 Arts and Cultural practitioners to represent the country.
“These groups and individuals will showcase their respective arts and cultural practices through dance, music and artistic displays this coming Friday,” said Head of Delegation and Director of Culture Dennis Marita.
Marita said the mini festival will give the public an opportunity to see the groups and individuals that will represent Solomon Islands in Guam later this month.
The mini festival will be opened by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Bartholomew Parapolo at 9am and will continue up to 8pm at night.
It will feature traditional dances, music performances, arts and craft displays and screening of movies created and directed by local videographers.
Mr Marita said the public is encouraged to enjoy the day and to acknowledge and appreciate the cultural diversity and creativity of Solomon Islanders.
The Solomon Islands contingent will begin leaving for Guam as early as May 18.
