THE much anticipated 2015 Inter-tertiary games comprised of country’s scholars studying at University institutions in-country and abroad now commence today in Honiara.
The annual event which looked forward to by every students is a week-long game competition starting today to Friday 11th December.
The competition will feature different sports. These include soccer, netball, volleyball, rugby and futsal.
The event (inter-tertiary games) is intended to convene students to participate in sporting, educational and cultural activities. It would be a refresher and relaxation time for students after years of study and stresses giving them the opportunity to intermingle with each other before departing to respective homes/Provinces for Christmas holiday.
Competing teams are USP Solomon Islands campus, UPNG students, Fiji National University (FNU) students, Solomon Islands National University (SINU), USP Alafua students, USP Laucala students and USP Emalus.
Games will starts at 8:30am-5pm with venues are; Soccer-Telekom playing field & SIFF academy, Netball-Lawson Tama, Volleyball-SINU (Kukum campus), Touch Rugby & rugby 7s-Panatina field and Futsal (indoor/outdoor) at the Multi-purpose hall.
Apart from the day’s activities (games) there are also night programs planned.
On Tuesday night, 7pm-9pm, there will be a night traditional games competition at the Pavilion at SINU Panatina campus.
Wednesday, 7pm-9pm, an open forum to be held at Kukum campus lecture theater on the theme: “Sustaining our culture and education through sports.”
Thursday, 5:30pm-7pm is an island buffy night to be held at Kukum Campus School of Tourism followed by an island Traditional night at the same venue.
Games finale will be on Friday from 8:30pm-10am followed by official closing with presentations at 11am at the Lawson Tama stadium.
Solomon Islands National University (SINU) host this year’s 2015 Inter-tertiary games.
